My Philosophy: A school library is a safe welcoming environment that fosters the love of reading. Inquiry-based learning will build social and intellectual development as it fosters a community of learners who foster a love of literacy and research.
Mission Statement: The mission of the library is to provide a stimulating, safe environment for all students to learn. The library will open eyes with information literacy and the skills needed to be life long learners of the 21st century. Vision Statement: The library will promote active student focused learning in order to produce high academic achievement. The library will guide students to be responsible and ethical citizens as they learn research, access and evaluate information and manage their own digital footprints as life long learners. Using advocacy and collaboration, the library will integrate information literacy as students engage in inquiry based learning. |
Welcome to the media website for Ms. Phillips at Fort Smallwood Elementary School. My goal is to place updated engaging books into the hands of students. I hope students find the love of reading through books. Through Makerspace and Inquiry based learning, students will build knowledge and research skills.
When I am not teaching I love to be outdoors. I like to be active with my three daughters. We enjoy playing sports, boating, crabbing, and doing arts and crafts. To relax you can find me reading. I am currently reading two books Managing the Successful School Library: Strategic Planning and Reflective Practice by Farmer and Leading for School Librarians : There Is No Other Option by Weisburg. I am a lifelong learner and finishing up my media certification at McDaniel College. I graduated from Bemidji State in Minnesota with a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology and Math. I later got certifications in the areas of special education, reading, and media. My masters degree is from Notre Dame of Maryland in Leadership and technology. I am looking forward to meeting you and helping you with any questions you may have. |
